Publisher's Synopsis

Triple bill of classic western movies. With 'True Grit' (1969) screen legend John Wayne finally received Oscar recognition for his performance as ageing gunslinger Rooster Cogburn. After her father is murdered by outlaw Tom Chancey (Jeff Corey), 14-year-old Mattie Ross (Kim Darby) attempts to track down the killer. She goes to a paunchy, one-eyed marshall (Wayne) - a man of 'true grit' - and together they pursue Chancey into Native American territory. They are joined by La Boeuf (Glen Campbell), a ranger who is hoping to collect the reward on another of Chancey's murders. 'Once Upon a Time in the West' (1969) is Sergio Leone's epic spaghetti western starring Charles Bronson and Henry Fonda. Frank (Fonda) is a sadistic outlaw hired by a crippled railroad baron (Gabriele Ferzetti) to murder a farmer named Brett McBain (Frank Wolff) and his family in order for his boss to inherit the land. When McBain's new wife, Jill (Claudia Cardinale), arrives from Utah to find her family slaughtered, she vows to get revenge on the perpetrator, with the help of another outlaw named Cheyenne (Jason Robards) and a mysterious man known only as 'Harmonica' (Bronson). In 'Shane' (1953) Alan Ladd plays the eponymous, soft-spoken ex-gunfighter who becomes a farm hand for a frontier family. All the local homesteaders are terrorised by a ruthless cattleman, and Shane reluctantly faces the fact that his gunfighting skills are of more use than his farm labour.
