Publisher's Synopsis

This book is composed of seven chapters on emotional regulation (ER). Chapter one proposes that ER plays a crucial role in understanding the connection between neuroticism and academic engagement. To foster fantasies in individuals with psychiatric disorders, the author of chapter two proposes a picture book as part of treatment to help people who are suffering from mental illness or who are unable to integrate themselves into society. Chapter three focuses on the general impact of psychological traumas on the formation of emotion regulation skills and the adaptive psychological stress-coping mechanisms across the lifespan. Chapter four explores the use of a clinical wellbeing measurement system within a creative health project and the development of an alternative approach that focuses on emotional regulation. Chapter five outlines an overview of integrative and/or transtheoretical approaches, strategies, and tasks to intervene in affective dysregulation. Chapter six builds on previous evidence and clinical studies and suggests that imbalances in neurobiological systems associated with dysfunctional coping styles deepens our understanding of emotional dysregulation and vulnerability to psychopathological disorders. Chapter seven aims to explore the associations between nonconscious affective processing (induced by subliminal emotion stimulation) and dispositional states and contextual states.
