Publisher's Synopsis
The story that led to the writing and recording of Vashti Bunyan's 1970 album Just Another Diamond Day. In 1968, Vashti Bunyan gave up everything and everybody she knew in London to take to the road with a horse, wagon, dog and boyfriend, writing songs along the way.
The gentle lilting songs belie the reality of that life on the road and the true story of the journey - and what led to it. Some of the stories are hard to believe: the luck and dangers, the trudge and the absolute joy of the freedom of the road. Together they portray a less innocent and naïve young person than the one we know from the music.
From working with the manager of the Rolling Stones, to camping in the woods, and fighting through freezing winters, homeless, Wayward rewrites the misleading narrative of a barefoot girl on the road to describe a life lived at full-tilt from the first.
