Publisher's Synopsis
Granny Wilts is the last dying branch on her family tree. Her proud heritage as a mountain healer is destined to return to dust when the county nurse threatens to remove her from the only home she has ever known. Obstinately Granny vows to fight off the invasion of unwanted good intentions but her strongest enemy is age.
Unknowingly the answers come when she discovers a young deaf runaway hiding in her smokehouse. Granny's life and that of the child bond together into a family saga filled with joy, fear, and death when they are forced to fight the boy's murderous father and the bounty hunters he has sent to bring the boy back.
The two thrive on tenderness and respect and Granny is able to pass on her holistic and herbal knowledge to the boy she names Moses who soaks it in like a new sponge and returns the gift with love.
