This year sees the 20th anniversary of the FT Weekend Oxford Literary Festival and once again Blackwell’s is proud and delighted to be the official bookseller. With around 250 separate events over the nine days from Saturday April 2nd - Sunday April 10th will be a feast for book lovers. Here we present just a fraction of the authors and events that we are looking forward to - head to the Oxford Literary Festival site for the full program. Richard Dawkins & Yan Wong The Ancestor’s Tale Sat 9 April at 6:00pm Bestselling author of The Selfish Gene Professor Richard Dawkins and fellow evolutionary biologist and television presenter Dr Yan Wong talk about the new updated version of their original work on evolution, The Ancestor’s Tale. A Celebration of the Festival Blues in the Park Sun 10 April at 6:30pm A fitting finale to mark 20 years of the Oxford Literary Festival this promises to be an unforgettable evening of warmth, poetry, song and fun. Come and experience the buzz of the festival in the Blackwell’s Marquee. Situated between the Sheldonian Theatre and the Bodleian Library we will be open every day for refreshment, free talks, author signings and much more. Thanks to the generosity of Oxford University Press there will also be a Shakespeare lounge. Highlights for Children & Young AdultsJacqueline Wilson An Afternoon with Jacqueline Wilson Sat 2 April at 2:00pm Enjoy an afternoon in the company of one of the nation’s best-loved children’s writers as she talks about her books and her life as a writer. Julian Clary & David Roberts The Bolds to the Rescue Sun 3 April at 2:00pm We are really excited to hear Julian Clary read from his new book as David Roberts draws live. Guaranteed laughs! Katherine Rundell Wild Wolves and Wilder Children Sat 2 April at 4:00pm Katherine is one of our absolute favourite authors - her latest book The Wolf Wilder is a magical book that will bewitch, mesmerise and enthral readers from the age of 8 up. Derek Landy Demon Road Desolation Sun 3 April at 4:00pm Fans of superstar author Derek Landry will be rushing to get tickets to hear from the first book in the brand new Demon Road series. Enjoy three of the most exciting new voices in YA fiction, each one who has been tipped for stellar success by those in the know. Charles Foster Being the Beast Sun 10 April at 2:00pm Charles Foster has worked as a barrister and currently teaches medical ethics at the University of Oxford. He has also lived as a badger. And an otter. And a fox. And a red deer. And a swift. This book and this talk can only be illuminating, fascinating and eye-opening. Robin Stevens, Katherine Woodfine and Julia Lee Murder for Tea Sun 10 April at 4:00pm Robyn sold books in our Oxford bookshop before becoming a hugely successful Children’s author with her Wells and Wong mysteries. Joined by Katherine Woodbine & Julia Lee there will be talk of murder and mysteries. Tea, of course, will be served. Peter Frankopan The Silk Roads: A New History of the World Mon 4 April at 2:00pm The Silk Roads was one of the biggest selling books in our Oxford bookshop last year - it is world history of the broadest sweep and the author marshals his expert knowledge with brio and a lightness of touch that makes it authoritative yet accessible.
