The Blackwell's Group consists of Blackwell Ltd, Blackwell UK Ltd, Heffers Ltd and their subsidiaries and related companies.

Pricing

Blackwell UK Ltd trading as Blackwell's Online (Blackwell's) aims to reflect the most accurate information on book prices at all times. We supply items at the publisher's recommended price except where a specific discount is offered. We will make all reasonable efforts to present accurate information but we cannot guarantee the price or our ability to supply any particular book.

Occasionally publishers may increase their prices unexpectedly, and this is often something we become aware of only upon ordering stock from them. In the event that this occurs, or in the event of a pricing error howsoever caused, we will, at our own discretion, either check with you before despatch to see if you still wish to receive the item at the new price, or cancel your order and notify you of the cancellation.

All prices are displayed in pounds sterling (£) on our UK website, www.blackwell.co.uk, and in US dollars ($) on our US website, www.bookshop.blackwell.com

Discounts and/or cashback from third party websites cannot be used in conjunction with any other offer or corporate discount.

Discount Codes

Enter your discount code exactly as it appears in the box marked 'voucher code' on the shopping basket page.

For items already on sale, additional discount will not be applied.

If an item is already on sale, the best value will be calculated and applied when the voucher code is submitted. Eg. If a 10% discount code is applied to a 20% off item, that item will remain at 20% off.

Discount codes do not apply to gift cards, 'new and used' books, Rare Books or any NOOK products (unless otherwise stated).

Discount code will not apply to eBooks which are unavailable outside the UK and EEA; they are not eligible for discount. This will be stated in small print on the product page.

If you change the contents of your basket, the price will be recalculated.

Postage and packing will be applied to each item in accordance with blackwell.co.uk's standard delivery rates and policies.

Offer subject to availability and may be changed or withdrawn without notice by blackwell.co.uk at any time.

Offer has no cash alternative.

Discount codes cannot be used in Blackwell stores.

Our 'Reserve Online Collect Instore' service does not apply to online discount codes.

Discount codes cannot be used in conjunction with any third party cashback offer.

Discount codes cannot be used on orders placed on credit.



VAT Distance Selling Regulations

To comply with current VAT distance selling regulations, we now charge the applicable VAT rate for any country for which we exceed the distance selling threshold. This currently includes: Australia , Canada , Denmark , France , Germany , Holland , Ireland , Italy , Spain and Sweden .

Customers in VAT exempt territories within the EU

Unfortunately, our system is not yet able to distinguish VAT exempt territories within the EU, such as the Canary Islands and so customers will be charged VAT when placing an order.

We are happy to refund the VAT to you after your order has been despatched. To request a VAT refund after despatch, please email: bob.online@blackwell.co.uk. Remember to include the order number with your request.

For further information on VAT distance selling regulations and selling thresholds please contact the relevant VAT authority for the country concerned.

Customs Charges

If you are ordering goods for delivery outside of the EU, please note that your consignment may be subject to import duties and taxes, which are levied once the goods reach the country of destination. Any such charges levied in relation to customs clearance must be borne by you. It is accepted by you that Blackwell Online has no control over additional charges in relation to customs clearance. Blackwell Online recommend that you check with your local customs officials or post office for more information regarding importation taxes/duties that may be applicable to your online order.

Contract

When you place an order to purchase a product from Blackwell's Online, we will send you an e-mail confirming receipt of your order and containing the details of your order. Your order represents an offer to us to purchase a product which is accepted by us when we send e-mail confirmation to you that we've despatched that product to you (the "Despatch Confirmation E-mail"). That acceptance will be complete at the time we send the Despatch Confirmation E-mail to you. Any products on the same order which we have not confirmed in a Despatch Confirmation E-mail to have been despatched do not form part of that contract.

Privacy

Blackwell's recognises the concern of our customers regarding privacy of information. All information you give to Blackwell's is stored securely, and is not accessible to other users. Rest assured that any information you give to Blackwell's will not be distributed to any other company outside of the Blackwell's Group or its affiliated partners, unless you give us your express consent.

We are committed to protecting your privacy. We will only use the information that we collect about you lawfully (in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998).

We collect information about you for two reasons: firstly, to process your order and secondly, to provide you with the best possible service.

We will not e-mail you or pass your information to another trader unless you have given us your consent. In order to process your payment we may, however, provide financial information to our account processors (including Banks and such organisations). In addition, you may notify us if you do not wish to receive any further marketing information from us. The type of information we will collect about you includes:

  1. your name
  2. address
  3. phone number
  4. email address
  5. credit/debit card details

We will not collect sensitive information about you without your explicit consent.

We will endeavour to ensure the information we hold will be accurate and up to date. You can check the information that we hold about you by emailing us. If you find any inaccuracies we will delete or correct it promptly.

The personal information which we hold will be held securely in accordance with our internal security policy and the law.If we intend to transfer your information outside the EEA (European Economic Area) we will always obtain your consent first, except for payment processing thorugh the secure channels of our banking partners.

Note that if your book is not available from our warehouse or suppliers in the UK and we have to obtain it from abroad, we will need to transfer the correct information to our suppliers outside the UK to fulfil the order.

We may use technology to track the patterns of behaviour of visitors to our site. This can include using a "cookie" which would be stored on your browser. You can usually modify your browser to prevent this happening. The information collected in this way can be used to identify you unless you modify your browser settings.

We do not knowingly collect for company use any personal information of children under 12 without the consent of their parent or carer.

Security

Blackwell's uses industry standard Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption to ensure the highest security for credit card and personal details submitted to us over the Internet. Recent surveys have shown that there is less fraud on the Internet than in real life situations (such as using your credit card in a department store or at a restaurant), and we're confident that we are offering the secure service you can expect from Blackwell's. Our security certificate is issued by Verisign and we use SSL 128 bit key encryption - USindustry standard security software. Information passed between your computer and our website cannot be read in the unlikely event that it is intercepted by someone else.

Refunds and Returns

Should you change your mind about your order, Blackwell operates a 'no questions asked' returns policy providing you return your book within 21 working days of the delivery of your order. This policy is in accordance with the UK Distance Selling Regulations. A full refund will be given for the returned items (including original postage costs), providing they are in their original condition and accompanied by a copy of the delivery note or receipt. Any postage costs incurred when returning your items will be at your own cost.

This policy does not extend to any perishable items, sealed audio, video recording or computer software, which are subject to our standard returns policy (see below).

If you placed your order in one of our bookshops and prepaid for your item, please contact the bookshop to obtain a refund.

After the 'no questions asked' 21 day period we will be happy to accept items for return in any of the following cases:

The item was found to be damaged or faulty.

We will either replace the item or give you a full refund (including postage costs). Please state which option you prefer. If you require a replacement, we will wait to receive the faulty copy from you before despatching a new one.

The item was incorrectly supplied.

If we have made a mistake in fulfilling your order, a full refund (including postage costs) will be given.

If your title was despatched from a US supplier, please consult your delivery note for the appropriate returns address in the United States .

Items should be returned to us by the most economical method. They remain your property until we have received them.

All returns are accepted at the discretion of Blackwell Online, and refunds will be given in the same tender type as the original payment.

Please allow 14 days (in addition to the delivery time) for the return to be processed.

Please note that our Standard Returns policy does not apply to business customers or to eBooks. Business customers may return 10% of their orders within 60 days, providing the items are in their original condition. Postage costs to send the items to us will be the responsibility of the customer.

Returns and Refunds for eBooks

eBooktitles purchased cannot be returned, refunded, or exchanged. If you experience technical difficulty in downloading or accessing a title, please contact our Customer Service team for assistance.

Non Delivery

In the event that a despatched item is delayed or assumed lost in transit we cannot offer to replace or refund until:

  • 10 business days after despatch if the item was sent via 'standard' post within the UK
  • 5 business days after despatch if the item was sent via 'priority' post within UK
  • 15 business days after despatch if the item was sent via 'standard' post to the EU and Europe
  • 20 business days after despatch if the item was sent via 'standard' or 'priority' post to North America
  • 25 business days after despatch if the item was sent via 'standard' or 'priority' post to Rest of the World

Blackwell Online shall have no liability to you unless you notify Blackwell Online within a total of 40 days of the date on which the goods were despatched to you.

If you notify a problem to Blackwell Online under this condition, Blackwell Online only obligation will be, at its option, to make good any shortage or non-delivery; to replace or repair any goods that are damaged or defective; or to refund to you the amount paid by you for the goods in question to the original method of payment.

Returns Policy For Business Customers

Our standard Returns Policy does not apply to those customers who purchase items for business use, resale or on a Business Account. Instead the following policy applies.

Business Customers may return 10% of each order within 60 days, subject to the following conditions:

  1. All items must be returned within 60 days of receipt
  2. Each item must be in pristine and resaleable condition
  3. Returned items must be accompanied by a copy of the delivery note or receipt

Postage costs to send the items to us will be the responsibility of the customer.

We will also be happy to accept items for return in the following cases, providing you inform us of your intention to return within 7 working days of receipt:

The item was found to be damaged or faulty.

  1. We will replace the item. Any postage costs for returning the faulty item and sending out a replacement will be the responsibility of Blackwell Online
  2. We will wait to receive the faulty copy from you before despatching a new one

The item was incorrectly supplied.

  1. If we have made a mistake in fulfilling your order, a full refund (including postage costs) will be given for the incorrectly supplied item
  2. We will require you to send the item back to us at our cost

Gift Card Terms and Conditions

  1. Valid activated cards can be used as full or part payment of goods at Blackwell shops across the UK and for purchases made online at blackwell.co.uk. No change or refunds will be given where the sales transaction is for an amount less than the balance on the card, but the balance may be applied to future purchases.
  2. This card cannot be used to purchase gift vouchers/additional gift cards or National Book Tokens nor can the card and any card balance be exchanged for cash or used as a deposit on a credit agreement.
  3. The minimum amount required to activate or top-up a card is £1.
  4. If the card is not used for a period of 24 consecutive months the card will automatically expire and any remaining balance will be deducted.
  5. Blackwell cannot be held liable for lost, stolen or damaged cards or any credit amounts on such cards. Please treat this card as if it were cash. To protect your balance in the event of your card being lost, stolen or damaged please make sure you are logged in and then register by clicking on the "Account" link, then click on the "Manage rewards & gift" link from the left-hand menu, then click on "Gift Card Loss Protection" from the menu and follow the on-screen instructions.
  6. The card may be used for payment of goods of a higher price than the current card balance on payment of the difference. Overpayments, where goods are subsequently exchanged for goods of a lower price, will be added to the balance of the card.
  7. Blackwell reserves the right to add or amend these terms and conditions. Customers will be notified via instore displays and on its website at www.blackwell.co.uk/giftcardsin the event of any change.

Rewards Terms and Conditions

  1. To participate in the Blackwell Reward Card scheme, you need to have a Blackwell Reward Card and have registered at blackwell.co.uk subject to these terms and conditions.
  2. Blackwell Rewards Cards remain the property of Blackwell UK Limited and can only be used for the reward card programme when making purchases in participating Blackwell and Heffers shops and outlets in the UK or online at www.blackwell.co.uk.Shops outside of the UK are excluded from this scheme.
  3. To earn reward points, you must present the card to the cashier at the time of purchase. The Reward Card number must be entered correctly onto the website transaction page. Incorrect or invalid card numbers will not qualify. Transactions made without the card cannot be recorded and therefore cannot count towards your rewards.
  4. You must complete registration online in order for your card to be registered. Points will only be converted on registered cards.
  5. Points are allocated for each whole pound spent and have no monetary value until converted.
  6. Applicants must be aged 16years or over.
  7. Employees of The Blackwell Group are not eligible for a Reward Card or for reward points.
  8. Your Reward Card is not a credit card, debit card or cheque guarantee card.
  9. The Scheme is only for consumer use. The Reward Card cannot be used for any transaction where the beneficiary is a business entity.
  10. The card can only be used by the registered user. Neither the Card nor the points are transferable to other Reward Cardholders.
  11. If you breach these terms and conditions or if Blackwell reasonably believes that you have abused the Scheme and/or breached these terms your card may be terminated without prior notice. Blackwell reserves the right to take any action deemed necessary where a Cardholder is found to have abused the scheme including withholding points previously credited to your account.
  12. Blackwell reserves the right to alter products included or excluded from the Scheme or to change the number of participating shops at any time.
  13. Blackwell reserves the right to decline issue, withdraw the Blackwell Reward Card or alter its term &conditions (including the value or points) at any time, or terminate the Reward Card Scheme without notice. Blackwell will notify Cardholders of any changes to these terms and conditions. Notices detailing the revised terms will be available in all participating Blackwell shops and onblackwell.co.uk/rewards.
  14. Cardholders cannot claim points on purchases made before they joined the Scheme.
  15. Points will be awarded on, and can be redeemed against, all merchandise sold in participating Blackwell shops, or at blackwell.co.uk, with the exception of gift vouchers, electronic gift cards, Book Tokens, postage, newspapers and products from instore concessions and other products or services from time to time as notified.
  16. Cardholders will receive points on qualifying transactions. In the UK and online points are awarded at a rate of 1 point for every £1.00 spent or a pro rata amount rounded up from0.51p to the nearest point. These can be altered at the discretion of Blackwell at reasonable notice to you. The number of points issued may vary between purchases. Blackwell reserves the right to vary the rates at any time with reasonable notice to you. There is no minimum amount of points balance. Once you have reached 100 points balance this will be converted overnight into a £5 balance onto your card.
  17. Points will usually be loaded onto your card within 24 hours, except in circumstances of system failure. Blackwell takes no responsibility for circumstances beyond their control. Points cannot be redeemed until loaded on to the card and converted.
  18. The full points value on an item will only be earned if no points value is redeemed as part of the transaction. When points are redeemed as part of the transaction, points will be awarded on the cash balance.
  19. Points have no cash redemption value and cannot be exchanged, sold or transferred.
  20. Blackwell may if it so wishes, reverse the associated points earned or redeemed if a transaction on which points are earned or redeemed is cancelled or reversed or when a product is returned (in accordance with Blackwell Returns Policy). For instore purchases, the Cardholder must present their Card to sales staff so that the points awarded can be debited from or credited to the Card when the product is being returned.

General

  1. If your Card is lost, stolen or is not working please contact a member of staff at a Blackwell shop or call +44 (0) 1865 333536. Blackwell cannot be held liable for lost, stolen or damaged Cards, or any points accrued on or redeemed from the Card without your knowledge. Blackwell reserves the right not to issue a replacement Card.
  2. The Scheme can be used in conjunction with other discounts or promotions, but Blackwell reserves the right to withdraw this at any time or may alter the products included or excluded in a promotion
  3. If any point in these terms and condition is held to be invalid in whole or in part, that part shall be deleted and the validity of the remaining terms shall not be affected.
  4. These terms and conditions and the Scheme are subject to the laws of England and Wales.

Data Protection

  1. These terms and conditions and Blackwell Privacy Policy governs Blackwell use of personal data collected from Cardholders. Blackwell will not pass your details on to any third party not involved in the running of this Scheme unless you have agreed that we may pass your details on to other companies.
  2. By signing up to the Scheme and giving us personal details, you agree to be sent Blackwell Rewards updates and special offers unless you subsequently notify us otherwise.
  3. We will also use your details and information on what you buy to help us manage the Scheme more effectively.
  4. It is important that your contact details are kept up to date in order that Blackwell can operate the Scheme effectively. Please keep your details up to date by visiting blackwell.co.uk if your details are incorrect or become out of date. You can also update your details (including your email address) at anytime by calling the Customer Services team on +44 (0) 1865 333536

Bursary Cards & Institute Accounts

  1. Students with a Bursary Card (eg MMU; QuB, Edge Card) or customers with a Blackwell Institute Account are not eligible to accrue Reward Points for purchases made with Bursary Cards or Institute Accounts.


Competition Terms and Conditions

  1. The competition closes on Friday 14th November 2014. No purchase is necessary to enter the competition. Only one entry per person allowed. Proof of entering is not proof of receipt of entry. Entrants must be resident in the UK and over 16 years of age.
  2. Any entry into the competition will be taken as acceptance of our Competition Terms and Conditions. The email address you provide will be used by Blackwell's to contact you if necessary and added to the Blackwell's mailing list, from which you will be able to unsubscribe at any time. We'll never share your personal details with anyone else.
  3. The prize is for technology items to the retail value of £1000. Blackwell's reserve the right to substitute items in the prize bundle with similar items of equal or greater value. The prize cannot be exchanged for cash or any other item. The prize is non-transferable.
  4. The winner will be drawn at random and notified via email by Friday 28th November. If the winner does not respond within 30 days of being notified we reserve the right to draw a new winner. The winner agrees to any publicity, including press photography required by Blackwell's. The decision of the contest judges are final. The right is reserved to terminate or withdraw this contest at any time.


NOOK® Terms and Conditions

Please note that free shipping is not applicable to NOOK® products. Postage charges for the Simple Touch will be applied in accordance with the table displayed on our Delivery Information page. Postage for all other NOOK® products will be £3.50. NOOK® products are excluded from our free delivery promotions. Discount codes/urls do not apply to any NOOK® products (unless otherwise stated). NOOK® are not entitled to discount from affiliate partners, including but not limited to cashback websites. Products available strictly whilst stock lasts.

Use of your personal information

Blackwell UK Limited is a company incorporated in Englandand is a member of The Blackwell Group ("the Group"). The Group ("we"/"us") also includes Blackwell Book Services Limited, Heffers Limited, a full list of the companies comprising the Group is available at blackwell.co.uk. We will use your personal information so that we can fulfil our agreement with you. This includes administering any accounts, processing and obtaining payment, preventing or detecting fraud, or running any prize draws or competition you may enter. In so doing we will provide your personal information to our employees and agents, for such purposes. We may also give information about you to other carefully selected companies and organisations so they can run prize draws or competitions, or pass your details to our agents and employees to do any of the above things for us. In addition, we can hand over information about you to anyone to whom we transfer our rights and duties under our agreement with you or if we have duty to do so and the law allows us to do it.

Your details may also be used to analyse your shopping preferences as part of our marketing programme. This might help us to automatically select and tailor products, services or special discounts we think you'll be interested to hear about.

You have a right to access the personal information we hold about you.
