Blackwell Rare Books, Oxford
Follow Us:
Blackwell's began as a bookshop in 1879, initially as a rare books dealer, from a tiny shop in Broad Street, at the same time Catalogue 1 was issued. Highlights included .Loggan's 'Oxoniana Illustrata' at £5 and a first edition of Hobbes 'Leviathan' for 18s. In the 1920s Sir Basil Blackwell purchased and developed the Shakespeare Head Press from which emanated many beautifully printed editions. After trading from several different Oxford addresses over the decades (and for a brief period from Fyfield Manor) we are again in the main Blackwell shop (Second Floor) and still continue to issue catalogues of our stock several times a year.
