The method of workplace accident reporting uses a traditional style of accident book such as the BI 510 book, up to April 2003, available from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP). Since the introduction of the Data Protection Act (DPA) in 1998, this method no longer complies with the law. DWP has now revised The Accident Book following advice from the Data Protection Agency, and passed the responsibility for production of the new-style book to the Health & Safety Executive. This was published on 19th May with a RRP of 4.75GBP plus VAT. From 31st December 2003 all businesses must comply with the provisions of the DPA in respect of accident recording and this new book is now available from Blackwell's at the special, lower price of 4.75GBP inc. VAT (4.04GBP excluding VAT). Bulk rates are available on request. This gives all businesses and organisations employing staff a seven-month lead time in which to purchase a new Accident Book and comply with the law. Each book is individually shrink wrapped and contains a leaflet offering basic health and safety advice, along with details of some of the more general titles published by HSE Books.
