What happened in the Big Bang? How did galaxies form? Is the universe accelerating? What is 'dark matter'? What caused the ripples in the cosmic microwave background? These are just some of the questions today's cosmologists are trying to answer. This book is an accessbile and non-technical introduction to the history of cosmology and the latest developments in the field. It is the ideal starting point for anyone curious about the universe and how it began.
This book is a simple, non-technical introduction to cosmology, explaining what it is and what cosmologists do. Peter Coles discusses the history of the subject, the development of the Big Bang theory, and more speculative modern issues like quantum cosmology, superstrings, and dark matter.

This book may be very short but it is as it says on the cover - an introduction. It is clear and concise. It provides the novice with an overview of Cosmology in an interesting and captivating way. In 2010 I purchased numerous books. This book is one of my favourites. I highly recommend this book and would like to personnaly thank Peter Coles and colleagues for putting together such an inspiring book. Because of its size I am able to carry it in my pocket and re-read it wherever I may be. A fantastic little book. - Dr David I. South Write a review
