Sport and Gender Identities

Taking a broad look at gender and sexuality in sport, this edited collection brings together perspectives from philosophy, sociology, anthropology, gender studies and sports studies to assess the sporting arena as both a site and a process in the exercise of gender relations and sexual politics. The assembled essays from leading writers in the subject address three main themes: masculinity and violence in sport, the 'feminisation' of traditionally male-dominated sports, and the performance of sexuality in sporting spaces. Finally, the issues raised across these broad themes are contextualised and synthesised in emerging theories of gender identities in sport as a whole.
