The Stigma of Growing Old in America is the authoras personal view of how our society treats the elderly. Myths, misconceptions, and attitudes are explored. The good, the bad, and the ugly aspects of the ageing process are critically examined, with an emphasis on discrimination, maltreatment and abuse. She suggests that health care for Americaas aolda is not adequate, and that there should be more attention given to preventive care. Ms. Estelle believes there is a more positive attitude emerging, especially from the ababy boomersa who will soon become senior citizens. She remains encouraged and optimistic about the future.
