Because to us, Jamestown was a very insignificant part of an alluring wild island, holding limitless possibilities of adventure. But why should my father, Joseph Wharton, have moved from the comforts of Newport to the wild island of Conanicut? Perhaps I had better first explain why he moved each summer from Philadelphia to Newport.
