Publisher's Synopsis
Map book (life systems)
In life structures, the chart book (C1) is the most predominant (first) cervical vertebra of the spine and is situated in the neck. It is named for Atlas of Greek folklore in light of the fact that, similarly as Atlas upheld the globe, it upholds the whole head.
The map book is the highest vertebra and, with the hub (the vertebra beneath it), frames the joint interfacing the skull and spine.
