I know that you've never heard of Bucky, Santa's Mystery reindeer 'til now..He was too dark and stocky to match the original team reindeer and didn't get to join until much later. Suddenly on Xmas eve he loses his power of flight and plummets into the Alaskan forest.. Santa's sleigh struggles back to the North Pole and Xmas is cancelled. Many search parties of elves and Santa Birds fail to find him and he is given up as dead..The sleigh is too heavy to be airborne without Bucky in the team..He survives and begins the long cold trek to reach the North Pole. He finds a friend, a chatty blue Santa Bird, who herself was injured in one of the rescue attempts. She makes a nest in his antlers.He has adventures including saving a doe wounded by hunters and must face wolf packs as well as the hunters who continue to track him..With the help of two children who befriend and hide the two deer; contact is made with Santa and a rescue site and time is decided upon..The children ride on his back through the cold forbidding forest to try to reach the rescue site at the exact time. They encounter wolf packs and a hungry cougar.. Meanwhile, the elves have constructed a lighter sleigh with more space and have added a cloaking device...but the hunter is getting closer and is drawing a bead on Bucky..the children and Bucky must summon up unknown strengths to fight the wolves and the hunters. Amy, the rescued doe, falls in love with Bucky. She is pregnant..Is the rescue going to succeed and is Bucky ever going to fly again? what about the new fawn?
