Publisher's Synopsis

The Yearbook 2004 has as its theme Kierkegaard's Philosophical Fragments, which has recently appeared in the new Danish scholarly edition, Soren Kierkegaards Skrifter vol. 4. This text has long been regarded as one of the most important of Kierkegaard's pseudonymous and philosophical works. The main section of the Yearbook features papers on this work from leading international Kierkegaard experts, representing several different fields of scholarship, such as philosophy, theology, literature, and philology. Section 2 is dedicated to articles on the rich and varied history of reception of the Philosophical Fragments in the different research traditions' language areas.;Various lectures and papers that were given at the Soren Kierkegaard Research Centre over the course of 2003 are published in the third section. Section 4 features two translations of primary texts from Kierkegaard's time: The first is an English translation of J.P. Mynster's essay "Rationalism, Supernaturalism" and the second, Hans Lassen Martensen's response to it. Both works are relevant for the issue of Hegelian mediation that exercises Johannes Climacus in Philosophical Fragments.
