Publisher's Synopsis

This guidance note has been prepared to assist planning and archaeological officers, developers and their consultants to make clear and informed decisions about piling schemes and their potential impact upon archaeological remains. It provides straightforward information on piling types, with mitigation suggestions supported by a research strategy and case studies.

Originally published in 2007, it has been revised to update contact details, and acknowledge changes to planning guidance (ie NPPF) and British Standards relating to vibration monitoring. A second edition of the guidance is planned for 2018/9 once further research into pile impacts identified within the research strategy has been completed.
