In late summer 1993, I set out from Bar Harbor, Maine on an 1800 mile hitchhiking odyssey. (I was headed home to coastal Mississippi to surprise my mom on our shared birthday.) This is the story of five days and twenty-five rides, of kindness and frustration, of boredom and adrenaline, of music and silence -- it is the story of a journey.
