Two are key texts of the Council which have had a defining effect on the role and profile of the Catholic Church in the world of today: the Decree on Ecumenism, Unitatis Redintegratio and the Declaration on Non-Christian Religions, Nostra Aetate. The third, Ecclesiam Suam, Pope Paul VI's Encyclical written during the Council, remains a vitally important document since it sets out the context and the significance of the two other documents.
