Publisher's Synopsis
This collection, containing some 22,000 sayings and proverbs, is the fruit of the editor's work for 14 years. In the collecting process, about 130 bilingual sources have been used, as well as multilingual collections from that of C. Ward (1842), till the more recent works by A. Arthaber, E. Strauss, J. Gluski (1971), T. Flonta (DeProverbio, 2001).
The collection is organized in 1000 groups, each of them composed of a title-proverb in its original language with the literal translation in English, an annotation, and - where available - one or more analogous proverbs in each one of the 12 languages or with literal translation where no akin proverb was found.
The main purpose in compiling this collection was to introduce Hebrew, the language of the Bible, which is the soul of western civilization, into the circle of languages composing multilanguage collections of the study of parallel proverbs.
