Zahniser was the executive director of the Wilderness Society and the author and chief lobbyist for the 1964 Wilderness Act that created the National Wilderness Preservation System. His son, Ed, edited this collection with commentary by George Davis, Paul Schaefer, and Douglas W. Scott.
